An Arnold man was charged with impeding law enforcement officers and other charges could be filed pending the investigation into the death of Julie Madeley, of West Wheatfield Township.

Brandon Lee Crowe, 31, was charged Wednesday with making terroristic threats, obstructing the administration of justice, recklessly endangering another person, obstructing emergency services, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and theft at 251 Climax Road, West Wheatfield Township, according to court papers.

Indiana County District Attorney Pat Dougherty said Monday that other charges could be filed, as the investigation is ongoing and autopsy and toxicology reports are still pending.

According to the charging documents, state police arrived at the residence at 4 p.m. Wednesday to check on Julie Ann Madeley, 39, who police said was suffering from an overdose of prescription drugs. But Crowe told police several times that she was not inside, before admitting that he knew she was inside, according to police.

Police gained entry to the home “by force,” according to the charging documents, and found Madeley unresponsive.

Madeley was transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center and later transferred to UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Oakland, where she died at 4:36 a.m. Thursday, according to a supervisor at the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office. The cause of death is pending.

Police told Crowe to leave and not come back to the residence, according to reports. But later Wednesday evening, state police trooper Anthony Baum Jr. returned to the scene and found Crowe taking around $1,000 worth items from Madeley’s vehicle, according to the charging documents.

Police said he had taken the items while she was unresponsive inside the house. Police said he also threatened Bruce McClue and Michelle Labelle, whose addresses were not listed, as well as Baum.

He was arrested and held in the Indiana County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Police did not specify why they were checking Madeley’s welfare or how she and Crowe were connected.
