Last meeting — The Penguins lost to Carolina, 4-1, on the road on Feb. 28. It was their last loss before a 15-game winning streak. Chris Kunitz scored the game’s first goal, but Carolina answered with four in a row.

Notes — The Penguins clinched their seventh straight playoff berth with Buffalo’s victory over New Jersey on Sunday. They are on their second-longest stretch of consecutive playoff appearances, behind the 11-year run from 1990-91 to 2000-01. The seven-year streak is the third-longest active streak in the league. … The Penguins acquired winger Jussi Jokinen from Carolina last week in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2013 draft. In his Pittsburgh debut Friday, Jokinen scored the Penguins’ lone regulation goal and added the shootout winner in a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

About the Hurricanes — Carolina sits 13th in the Eastern Conference, eight points behind Southeast Division leader Washington and the final playoff spot. The Hurricanes have lost 12 of their past 13. The Hurricanes lost to Boston, 6-2, on the road Monday night, allowing the game’s first five goals. Patrick Dwyer and Drayson Bowman added markers in the third period for Carolina. Goaltender Justin Peters stopped just two of four shots and was replaced by Dan Ellis, who stopped 28 of 32. … Eric Staal leads the team with 41 points. Jiri Tlusty leads in goals (17) and Alexander Semin in assists (26). Former Penguin Jordan Staal has just nine goals and 14 assists (23 points) and is a minus-15 in 38 games.
