BLAIRSVILLE 20, PENNS MANOR 3: Host Blairsville amassed a season-high 15 hits and plated 15 runs in the third inning to thump Penns Manor in a Heritage Conference game that was shortened to three innings due to the mercy rule.
Blairsville, which jumped out to a 5-0 lead, plated 15 runs on nine hits, five walks and a hit batsman in the top of the third. The Bobcats scored 10 runs with two outs in the inning.
“We had some guys on in the first inning, we just couldn’t produce,” Blairsville coach Mark Zerfoss said. “But we strung some hits and walks together in the second and took a lead, and then everything just seemed to go our way in the last inning.”
Anthony Faulk and Colton McMillan each singled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs for Blairsville. Reed Ratkus doubled, tripled and drove in four runs. Nick Scribe singled, scored twice and drove in two runs, and Josh Daugherty singled twice, scored three times and drove in a run. Lucas Palmer doubled, scored three times and drove in two runs, and John Distefano singled, doubled, scored three times and drove in a run.
Bobby Thompson and Ratkus teamed up to fire a one-hitter. Thompson struck out three and allowed one hit in two innings to pick up the win.
Kasey Jewart singled to register Penns Manor’s lone hit.
Both teams play Wednesday. Blairsville (4-1) travels to Leechburg, and Penns Manor visits Homer-Center.
