The Smicksburg United Methodist Women met at 7 p.m. April 10. There were 11 members and three youths present.
The devotions were titled “Doing Something About the Weather,” which was based on a passage from Psalms, and also a poem about spring.
The program was “Women Organized for Mission,” which was information about the United Methodist Women. The presenter also read from Matthew 19 about the “Parable of the Sower.” The group did a fun word search pertaining to the parable and the winner got gardening gloves. Each lady in attendance also received a packet of flower seeds. They closed with a prayer.
The minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved as read.
It was reported that the Smicksburg UMW provided one pot of soup for the April 3 bread and broth Bible study. Also, two members donated fruit salad for the Easter sunrise at Dayton United Methodist Church.
The spring breakfast outing was held April 13 at Country Junction Restaurant.
May 10 is the Family Day Banquet at 6 p.m. It will be held at the church and will be covered dish. The group may have entertainment that evening as well. This will be discussed at next month’s meeting.
The annual Yard and Bake Sale (trash and treasure sale) will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8, rain or shine. It will be in conjunction with Smicksburg’s Strawberry Festival. The group discussed advertising. They will have hoagies, soda and water and baked goods available for lunch.
A goal of making 20 UMCOR Health Kits again this year was set. The deadline for donations will be May 19.
The District UMW Mission Day is Saturday in Ringgold. The group may have two members who will attend. The collection this year is nonperishable foods for the local food banks.
The annual White Elephant sale was held.
The meeting was closed with the reading of the Litany. After the prayer, members had a meal and door prizes were awarded.
