Jessica Stever set the school record in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1 minute, 1.7 seconds, as the Indiana Junior High School track and field team suffered its first loss of the season, 74-49, to Hempfield on Monday.
Abby Myers won the 800 and triple jump, and Stever won the high jump.
Indiana’s 3,200 relay team of Rebecca Olechovski, Clara Sherwood, Teresa Roth and Myers, the 400 relay team of Emily Pineda, Victoria Mbogo, Bailey Dills and Megan Kester, and the 1,600 relay team of Olechovski, Kester, Stever and Myers also took first place.
In the boys’ meet, Indiana lost, 94-29. Nathan Hilliard won the 400, and Bob Bell took the shot put.
IHS doubles team takes third
NEW KENSINGTON — The Indiana doubles team of Justin Fleming and Jacky Li placed third at the WPIAL Section 4-AA boys’ tennis doubles tournament Monday at Valley High School.
Fleming and Li advanced to the WPIAL Championships on Monday at Keystone Oaks High School.
Fleming and Li, the No. 2 seed, got a first-round bye and then defeated Valley’s Calvin Shaffer and Josh Frazee, 10-6, in the second round.
Fleming and Li lost to Burrell’s Tom Spagnola and Luke Lynam, 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinals before defeating Burrell’s James Liput and Nick Pattock, 10-4, in the consolation match to place third.
The Indiana doubles team of Jonathon Karcher and John Appolonia lost to Liput and Pattock, 10-4, in the opening round.
McDonald’s wins interleague game
In Little League interleague play Saturday, McDonald’s defeated Clymer Marsh Tree Service, 28-11, in the 11- and 12-year-old division.
Ewing Greenhill went 6-for-6 with two home runs, and Axel Kovalchick, Aaron Burkhart and Colin Carnahan each stroked five hits for McDonald’s. Luke Thomas homered.
Gunner Sharp recorded the win, and Ryan Pasternak pitched in relief.
