Two local art educators have the responsibility of combing through hundreds of pieces of visual art created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade in order to select up to 33 pieces for commendation and prizes.
This year the judges are Sean Derry, assistant professor of sculpture at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Trish Dodson, a longtime area art educator.
The judges will be reviewing the work while it’s on exhibit at the Indiana Mall through Sunday.
Student work from the following schools was selected and displayed by teachers: Indiana Area Junior High, Indiana Area Senior High, Derry Elementary, Homer-Center Junior/Senior High School, Homer-Center Elementary, Marion Center Junior/Senior High School, Penns Manor Area High School, Seeds of Faith, St. Bernard Regional School, United Junior/Senior High School and United Elementary.
This is the sixth year that the Indiana Arts Council has sponsored the Youth Arts Celebration as a way to publicly recognize the nature and the vibrancy of the arts in the education of children.
