YOUTH LEGION BASEBALL: Kovacik, Jack win openers

Kovacik Insurance opened its season by thumping Marion Center, 14-0, in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Monday in Marion Center.

The game was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Josh Dougherty led Kovacik Insurance with a single, a triple and three RBIs. Doug Pollack and Max Hrebik each singled twice, and Bubba Seitz ripped an RBI double.

Ryan Shirley struck out four and walked three in four innings to earn the win.

Both teams play Wednesday. Kovacik Insurance plays host to United, and Marion Center plays at S.W. Jack on Wednesday.


S.W. JACK 13, INDIANA LIONS 7: S.W. Jack fell behind by three runs early but used a big rally in the third inning to best Indiana Lions in a game that was shortened to five innings due to darkness.

The Black Sox erased a three-run first-inning deficit by scoring seven runs on six hits in the third to take an 11-7 lead.

Zach Schultz tripled and doubled to lead S.W. Jack. Ryan Palmer singled three times.

Bobby Bell struck out 12, walked five and allowed six hits in a complete-game win.

Tom Budash singled three times to lead Indiana Lions.

Both teams play Wednesday. S.W. Jack plays host to Marion Center, and Indiana Lions plays at Walbeck Insurance.
