MILLERSVILLE — Two IUP athletes posted top times Friday to advance to today’s finals at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Brooke McDaniel had the best time in Friday’s preliminaries in the 400-meter dash at 55.86 seconds. Marina Wareham followed suit in the 800 with a time of 2:14.10.
Krista Matsko advanced in the 100 hurdles (14.99) and 400 hurdles (1:01.84). Her time in the 400 hurdles was the third-fastest in the preliminaries.
On the men’s side, three individuals advanced. Stephen Deak and Troy Zangaro advanced in the 400 at 48.35 and 48.41, respectively. Jared Long, a United High School graduate, moved on in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.04, the second-best mark in the preliminaries.
The men’s 4x800-meter relay team pulled in a seventh-place finish with a time of 8:10.40, and Katie Koenig finished fifth in the 5,000 meters at 18:03.38.
In field events Friday, IUP’s Ross Moreau, a United High School graduate, placed third in the shot put with a throw of 15.73 meters, and Laurie Ajavon finished third in the long jump at 5.74 meters.
After two days of action, the IUP men and women sit in eighth place in the team standings. The women have 17 points while the men have tallied 13. Kutztown leads the women’s competition with 67 points, and Lock Haven leads the men’s with 51.
