KENWOOD — Homer-Center had 12 hits – all singles – and took advantage of six walks and five errors to whip Penns Manor, 13-7, in a Heritage Conference softball game played Monday.
Julia Buggey and Abby Plowcha had two singles apiece to lead the Wildcats. Laura Jones scored three times.
Emily Stupic had three singles to pace the Comets. Kaylin Templeton, Adel Plavi and Makayla Parfit had doubles for Penns Manor.
Plowcha earned the win. She struck out eight and did not issue a walk.
Braun places third in tourney
NEW CASTLE — Indiana Country Club golf pro Daniel Braun placed third alongside teammate David Yokitis in the Cutter & Buck Pro-Pro Championship tournament on Monday at New Castle Country Club.
The tournament was played in a Chapman format, which is similar to a scramble.
Braun and Yokitis (Butler Country Club) shot a combined 139 in two rounds and finished in a three-way tie for third place.
Four score holes-in-one
Four players scored holes-in-one at Indian Springs Golf and Country Club recently.
On May 9, Dennis “Sporty” Chutorich aced No. 7, a 159-yard hole, using a 6-iron. It was his third career hole-in-one, all of which have come on the same hole. The witnesses were Ed Meyer and Ed Lovelace.
Three players scored aces on May 4: Ken Zielinski, Chris Edwards and Scott Keirn. Zielinski aced No. 7; Edwards aced No 2., which was playing at 178 yards; and Kiern aced No. 10, a 135-yard hole.
Keirn used a 7-iron for his ace. The witnesses were Ted Zernick, Gary Fleming and Jerry Stanick.
IUP’s Mitchell earns honor
IUP outfielder Jasa Mitchell has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Atlantic Region second team.
The junior is coming off of a season in which she led the Crimson Hawks in nearly every major offensive category.
She finished the year with a team-high .343 batting average, 46 hits, seven home runs, 34 RBI, .604 slugging percentage and 10 stolen bases.
She tied for first on the team with 12 doubles and a triple and was second with 27 runs scored.
