SPAGHETTI DINNER: The Brush Valley Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit Jim Anderson Jr., of Brush Valley. It will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brush Valley Fire Hall. Anderson is recovering from a double lung transplant. All are invited.
ART SHOW: For its final exhibit of the school year, Horace Mann Elementary Gallery will present its annual Horace Mann Student Art Show. Every student in the school will have a work of art on display.
The public is invited to attend an opening reception from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Adults and accompanied children are invited to enjoy the artwork and refreshments.

MEETING: The Indiana County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eat’n Park.
Tim Nupp, an Indiana County Civil War living historian, will speak on “The Significance of the Grand Army of the Republic in the Post-Civil War Era.” The grand Army of the Republic originated as a Civil War veterans’ group advocating veteran pension reform and grew to become one of the first advocacy groups in American politics.
Nupp’s great-great-grandfather, Franklin Nupp, and his great-great-uncle, John Henry Nupp, both served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
John Henry Nupp lost his life in the Battle of the Wilderness.
Franklin Nupp’s personal diaries are the source of Tim’s continued interest.
Tim Nupp is the Junior Vice Commander of Camp #43, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Department of PA, and chairman of the Indiana County Civil War Memorial Committee. He is a resident of Indiana, attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and is a partner in M and T Construction.
