A local Indiana University of Pennsylvania student was selected for a university Chacivity Award, which honors students for character, civility and integrity.
Jahred Szalkowski, of Lucernemines, a philosophy major at IUP, is one of 15 recipients of the award for the 2012-13 year. To date, 193 IUP students have received the award, which was created in 2004.
The son of Goldina Badner, Lucernemines, and Brian Szalkowski, Brush Valley, he is a 2009 graduate of Homer-Center Junior Senior High School.
A dean’s list student, he is a member of the IUP Pride Alliance, the Philosophy Club and the Muse creative writing club.
