Marion Center rode a four-run third inning to pull away from Young Township for a 6-2 win in an Indiana County Senior Legion baseball game Thursday.
Marion Center trailed 1-0 before plating four runs on two hits, two walks and an error in the bottom of the third inning. Kasey Jewart highlighted the rally with a three-run triple with one out. He finished with four RBIs.
Hunter Stiteler paced Marion Center by going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.
Winning pitcher C.J. Stiles allowed six hits in a complete-game effort, striking out five and walking none. Stiles also had two hits, including a triple.
Mitchel Yard led Young Township with a pair of hits, including a double.
Marion Center (1-1) travels to Indiana Legion on Saturday.
KOVACIK INSURANCE 11, HOMER CITY LEGION 1: Andrew Schultz fired a two-hitter, and Kovacik Insurance used a pair of big innings to thump Homer City Legion in a game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule at WyoTech Park.
Kovacik Insurance broke a 1-1 tie by plating six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Blairsville entry added four runs in the third to round out the scoring and push the lead to 11-1.
Schultz struck out seven, walked one and allowed no earned runs.
Anthony Faulk went 2-for-2 with a double and scored three runs for Kovacik Insurance.
Chad McConnell and Matt Nymick each had singles for Homer City Legion’s only two hits.
PUNXSUTAWNEY LEGION 3, MARION CENTER 2: In a game played Wednesday, Punxsutawney Legion plated a run on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to nip visiting Marion Center.
With the game knotted 2-2 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Punxsutawney’s Matt Burkett ripped a line drive that Marion Center’s right fielder couldn’t handle, and the hosts walked away with an extra-inning win.
Brandon Ailes led Marion Center by going 2-for-2.
Clayton Dole singled three times to lead Punxsutawney Legion. Dakota Byers singled twice and drove in a run.
