Jeannie Bujdos, an Indiana High School graduate and a sophomore at Seton Hill, was named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field athlete of the year.
At the WVIAC meet, Bujdos set a meet record in the 10,000-meter run with her winning time of
36 minutes, 36 seconds. She broke the conference meet record by nine seconds.
Bujdos also placed second in the 1,500 and 5,000.
Bujdos was the WVIAC cross country individual champion. She also placed 20th in the Atlantic Regional.
Ligonier Valley advances
BEDFORD — Ligonier Valley scored two runs on three errors and a walk in the top of the seventh inning, then held off Chestnut Ridge for a 6-5 victory in a PIAA Class AA softball game Monday at Bedford High School.
The Rams, 17-4 and the District 6 runner-up, advanced to the quarterfinals to play undefeated WPIAL champion Riverside on Thursday.
With two outs in the top of the final inning, the Lions committed two errors on infield grounders that allowed the tying run and eventual game-winning run to score.
Ligonier’s Maddy Grimm finished with two hits, including a two-run home run in the fifth inning. She also scored on a four-base error in the third when her deep fly ball was dropped.
Chestnut Ridge, the four-time defending District 5 champion, closed the season at 20-3.
Gilgal wins softball game
Gilgal Presbyterian defeated Bethel Presbyterian, 10-5, in an Indiana County Church League softball game Monday.
Ben Harley and Bobb Patterson each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Gilgal. Michael Lockhart singled, doubled and had three RBIs, Scott Bowman singled twice and drove in a run, and Jason Johnston singled twice. Jeff Cribbs picked up the win.
Chris Nehrig led Bethel by going 3-for-3.
