Indiana High School junior Sean Thompson was named the most valuable player in WPIAL Section 2-AAA baseball, and three other Indiana players were named to the all-section team.
Thompson, who also played outfield, was named to the first team as a pitcher. He was joined on the top squad by two classmates, infielder Ryan Creps and outfielder Danny Clark.
Zach Schultz, a freshman pitcher and first baseman, received an honorable mention.
S.W. Jack blanks Clymer Legion
CLYMER — In a game played Wednesday, visiting S.W. Jack mustered just five hits but used big innings in the third and fifth to blank Clymer Legion, 10-0, in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game. The game was shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule.
S.W. Jack added to its early one-run lead by scoring three runs on a hit, two walks and an error in the top of the third inning. Ryan Palmer highlighted the rally with a two-run single that made it a 4-0 game.
Winning pitcher Zach Schultz struck out six, walked none and allowed one hit in two innings. Chase Kromer struck out six, walked two and surrendered three hits in four innings of relief.
Losing pitcher Mike Hildebrand struck out six and walked two in 4 1-3 innings.
Clymer Legion (6-4) plays host to Kovacik Insurance tonight. S.W. Jack (11-1) welcomes Fezell Enterprises on Saturday.
Hoodlebug race set July 14
HOMER CITY — The Hoodlebug 5K Run and Fun Walk will be held Sunday, July 14, in Homer City.
Race-day registration opens at 4:30 p.m. at Floodway Park on Main Street, and the race being at 6 p.m.
The course is on city streets in Homer City and Center Township, and part of the last mile is on the Hoodlebug Trail.
The Hoodlebug 5K is conducted by Indiana Road Runners Club in conjunction with the Homer City Business Association’s annual festival.

Physicals slated at Homer-Center
HOMER CITY — Physicals for Homer-Center varsity, junior varsity and junior high sports will be administered Wednesday in the high school nurse’s suite according to the following schedule:
Boys in grades 11 and 12, 7:30 a.m.; girls in grades 11 and 12, 8:15 a.m.; girls in grades 9 and 10 at 9 a.m.; boys in grades 9 and 10, 9:45 a.m.; girls grades 7 and 8, 10:30 a.m.; and boys in grades 7 and 8, 11:15 a.m.

McGinnis sweeps golf league
Ginny McGinnis carried the day in the Indian Springs Tuesday Morning Ladies Golf League this week. McGinnis won the play of the day, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, recorded the low putts with 13 and won the chippies and birdies.
