Kovacik Insurance took advantage of four errors and four walks in 10-0 victory at Young Township in an Indiana County Senior Legion baseball game Saturday afternoon.
Kovacik, the Blairsville entry took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and scored three runs in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings. The game was stopped after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
“We pretty much threw the ball around,” Young Township manager Barry Thomas said, “and to beat Blairsville you have to have your ‘A’ game. And we didn’t have it.”
Young Township couldn’t score against Reed Ratkus, who yielded only four hits, did not issue a walk and was backed by a steady defense.
Bobby Thompson had two of Kovacik’s hits and drove in two runs. Cam Livingston also had two hits and drove in a run.
Delbert Brown struck out seven and walked four for Young Township.
Kovacik Insurance plays at Punxsutawney today, and Young Township plays host to Marion Center on Tuesday. Young Township’s scheduled game at Homer City’s Post 493 this evening has been canceled.
