The White Township supervisors have authorized a study of the area at Lenz Road and Oakland Avenue by a traffic engineer in anticipation of development and how it could affect traffic safety and congestion.
A traffic engineer will review a 2010 traffic study, site plans and maps and provide four options for the area in the form of conceptual drawings, said Milt Lady, township manager.
Possibilities include new connector roads or the relocation of Lenz Road.
The cost of the study is $4,000, Lady said. Results will be available to the supervisors in 30 to 60 days.
The supervisors authorized the study after receiving a letter from the planning commission recommending they look into a plan to alleviate traffic congestion and safety concerns.
In a letter submitted to the supervisors, the planning commission urged action in the area — which will likely be developed in the future — in accordance to the township’s official map.
Traffic in the area of Lenz Road could be increased in the future, with plans for development in that area such as a proposed car dealership and a hotel, said Chris Anderson, assistant township manager and code enforcement officer.
And while Anderson said a traffic study showed the current situation would not be impacted by this development, it would be impacted by any more development in the area afterward.
In other business, the supervisors:
• Tabled a vote regarding the approval of work to a slope easement at the site of a proposed car dealer and hotel at Oakland Avenue and Lenz Road for Delaney Auto Group.
Developers want to regrade a portion of an easement under township jurisdiction to level off property for the development of a three-story, 80-room hotel.
Anderson and Lady recommended the supervisors table the issue until the next meeting, when results of the township engineer’s review of the soil analysis and other documents is complete.
• Authorized township officials to research a safety ordinance to regulate the use of barbed wire and electric fences in residential areas. These types of fences can be hazardous if used improperly, Anderson said.
• Held an executive session to discuss information regarding undisclosed property the township may purchase. After the executive session, the supervisors authorized Lady to hire a surveyor on the condition that an agreement of sale is entered between the township and seller.
• Approved an agreement with Sharp Paving to dredge culvert areas at Shelly Drive and Mansfield Avenue at a cost of $6,570 for flood protection along the stream.
• Will purchase new signs for Getty Heights Park, White’s Woods Park and Kennedy-King Park at a cost of less than $100 per sign.
• Heard that a contractor installing fiber optic cables bored through a township storm sewer pipe, damaging 40 to 60 feet, Lady said. The contractor was cooperative and replaced the damaged pipe.
• Will seek quotes for a metal and shingle roof for possible repair to damage at a township-owned building along Route 110. The building is used for equipment storage and may be sold after a new maintenance building is constructed this year.
• Announced that 12 applications were received and are being reviewed for the position of code enforcement officer.
• Will start holding flea markets at the recreation complex in July, possibly beginning the second week of July.
