Huey commits to Westminster

PURCHASE LINE — Purchase Line’s Josh Huey has committed to play football at Westminster College in New Wilmington.

Huey, a 5-foot-8 running back, was a three-time letterman and an All-Gazette selection. He rushed for 1,061 yards and scored 11 touchdowns as a senior and gained 1,070 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a junior.

Huey is the son of Dennis and Cindy Huey. He plans to major in environmental science.

Youth soccer team sets tryouts

JOHNSTOWN — The Laurel Highlands Storm U13 boys’ soccer team will hold tryouts at 6 p.m. Friday and Tuesday, June 25, at Kidsport in Johnstown.

Players born between Aug. 1, 2000, and July 31, 2002, are eligible.

Sikora tied for lead

FARMINGTON — Former IUP golfer Ryan Sikora holds a share of the lead after two rounds at the 109th West Penn Open at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s Mystic Rock golf course.

Sikora, of Greensburg, carded a two-round total of 9-under 135, shooting a 65 in the first round and 70 in the second round. He is tied with Daniel Obremski, of Irwin, who registered rounds of 66 and 69.

Five other players were within six shots of the lead.

Sean Knapp, of Oakmont, also a former IUP player, stands 11 shots back at 2-over 146. He shot a 76 in the first round and a 70 in the second.

Golfers with the 32 lowest scores, plus ties, moved on to today’s third and final round.

Local players missing the cut of 149 were Jon Mills (150), Joseph Reed III (151) and Matt Holuta (158). Mills and Holuta are from Indiana, and Reed is from Clarksburg.

IUP slates basketball camps

The IUP men’s basketball program will hold summer camps on June 24 to 27 and July 22 to 25.

The camps are for players ages 7 to 17. The cost is $135.
