Charlotte Bortz, of Saltsburg, celebrated her 90th birthday on June 21 with family members from New Hampshire and friends and extended family from the Saltsburg Social Center and Aging Services staff.
Bortz has three children: Karen Beistel, Tennessee; George, of Alabama; and Sarah Haney, of New Hampshire.
She attended Greensburg High School.
She worked at Latrobe Acme Die in 1941, where she made detonators for bombs, and also worked at Brown’s Grocery Store in Greensburg. She retired in 1949.
Her hobbies include stripping furniture and embroidery. Her favorite singer is Kate Smith.
Bortz is a regular at the Saltsburg Social Center and says that meeting and working with people has kept her young.
