The Center for Community Growth and the Indiana Cares Campaign to End Homophobia will host a screening of the film “8: The Mormon Proposition” at 7:30 p.m. today at the Indiana Theater.
The screening will be preceded by a panel discussion about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in Indiana and the region, according to organizers.
The film explores the funding behind the fight to ban same-sex marriages in California in 2008.
While Proposition 8 did pass in 2008, Wednesday’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act by the Supreme Court overturns it. The panel will discuss reaction to the film, and also to the Supreme Court decision.
The Center for Community Growth is a citizen-based organization in Indiana County promoting a healthy environment, a sustainable local economy and social justice projects.
The Center’s film festival at the Indiana Theater features a 7:30 p.m. film and panel discussion on the last Friday of every month running through July.
