The Indiana Optimist Club recently selected Logan Hess as the 667th Boy of the Month for July. Logan, 18, is the son of Mark and Sherene Hess, of Indiana. He is the brother of Adam, Grant and Gage.
He is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he participates in the Vineyard Labor Gang’s Food Pantry and Katie’s Closet teams. He also attended the Citizens with the Saints national youth gathering and service trip in New Orleans.
Logan will be a senior at Indiana Area Senior High School, where he is a member of the swim team, medaling at the WPIAL championships his freshman, sophomore and junior years. Logan also teamed up with brother Grant, Jon Haycock and Daniel Peng to claim first place in the 200 medley relay. The relay team went on to finish eighth at the 2013 state meet. Indiana won the WPIAL team title for the third straight season in 2013.
Logan has been a member of the YMCA Piranhas swim team for 13 years, qualifying for the state championships the last seven years. Logan has been a lifeguard for the YMCA of Indiana County for two years and has helped various organizations do outreach at the Children’s Advisory Commission’s Family Fun Fest.
Logan’s hobbies include writing and playing music with his friends.
He enjoys watching comedies that poke fun at society or politics on TV.
His favorite subjects in school are art and math. Logan plans on attending a four-year college.
