I-Medical finishes off S.W. Jack
First-place I-Medical wrapped up its regular season with a 9-7 victory over S.W. Jack on Saturday in the completion of a previously suspended Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game at Hogan Field.
I-Medical (18-2) sealed the top seed with the win, and S.W. Jack (15-5) will receive the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, which are set to begin Monday.
With his team trailing 5-2, Zach Schultz smacked a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning to give S.W. Jack a one-run lead. The Black Sox scored again in the fourth, but I-Medical answered with one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one run in the seventh.
Dakota Byers struck out 10 and walked one to earn the win. Brandon Douthit homered and doubled to lead I-Medical, and Lance Pennington also hit a double.
Chase Kromer had a single and double for S.W. Jack, and Bobby Bell added three hits. Joe Wilson took the loss with two strikeouts.
S.W. Jack plays at second-seed Kovacik Insurance on Monday for the first round of the playoffs. I-Medical will play host to either Clymer or Young Township, who are battling for the fourth spot, at a time yet to be determined.
Young Township wins SL game
HOMER CITY — Young Township finished with just four hits, but rolled up eight runs in an 8-2 win over Homer City Post 493 in an Indiana County Senior Legion game at First Commonwealth Field.
The Pirates managed just two hits and committed four errors in the loss.
Tanner Baylor paced Young Township (12-6) with two hits. Mike Percic picked up the win, striking out two and walking four in four-plus innings.
Losing pitcher Anthony Caruso struck out five and walked eight.
Homer City (4-14) visits Punxsutawney on Monday.
Indiana crushes New Bethlehem
Indiana topped New Bethlehem, 14-7, in a Little League District 7 9- and 10-year-old softball tournament game Saturday.
Sarah Zimmerman struck out 14 to earn the win, and Abby Chamnick clubbed an inside-the-park home run for Indiana.
