With the game tied at 6, Blairsville scored five runs in the final three innings to open up a wide margin en route to an 11-6 win over Amfire Mining in an Indiana County League baseball game in Blairsville on Sunday.
Blairsville looked to have put away the game early after a five-run second inning gave the first-place Colts a 6-2 lead, but the Indies wouldn’t go away quietly.
In the Colts’ five-run second inning, Jarred Pennavaria roped an RBI double to get things started.
Andrew Gilmore raced home on a wild pitch, and Dave Doak ripped a two-run double. Dan Leonard finished off the scoring with an RBI single.
Amfire Mining responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 6.
After a leadoff double by Joe Pacconi, David Budash reached on a walk and Travis Trimble was hit with a pitch to load the bases. Travis Holby then lined a two-run single up the middle to trim Blairsville’s lead to 6-4.
Jordan Hudzicki and P.J. Kuta added RBI singles in the inning to tie the game.
Blairsville then scored one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings before blowing the game open with a three-run bottom of the sixth.
Doak, Leonard and Pennavaria each finished with two RBIs.
“It’s been a team effort all year,” player/manager Joe Culler said. “We expect everyone to do their jobs, especially the guys at the top of the lineup.
“It was great to get a win and keep rolling along.”
For Amfire Mining, Kuta drove in three runs and Holby finished with two RBIs.
Both teams play on the road Tuesday. Blairsville (17-3-1) travels to Trendy Trades, and Amfire Mining visits Bovard.
