S.W. Jack used slick fielding, timely hitting and superb pitching to oust Kovacik Insurance from the Indiana County Youth Legion baseball playoffs with a 5-1 win in Game 2 of a best-of-three semifinal series Tuesday at Charlie Hogan Field.

The third-seeded Black Sox (17-5), who won the first game of the series 4-1, advanced to play top-seeded I-Medical in the best-of-three championship series, which is scheduled to begin today in Punxsutawney. Second-seeded Kovacik Insurance concluded its season with 17-5 a record.

S.W. Jack notched each of its three hits in the bottom of the first inning, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Jake Kelly scored from second base on a passed ball with two outs to put the Black Sox on the board first. Zach Schultz then clobbered a home run, his second of the series, over the right-center field fence to make it 2-0. Chase Kromer doubled and then scored on the next at-bat on Ryan Palmer’s double, stretching the lead to 3-0.

“He’s just been killing the ball,” S.W. Jack manager Mitch Pacconi said of Schultz. “He’s got three homers in our last five games. He’s a heck of a hitter. He’s got a good, strong, quick bat — just a lot of power.”

Bobby Bell struck out five, walked two and allowed one hit in six innings to earn the win. Cole Shaffer struck out one and allowed no walks in one inning of relief to get the save.

Corey Ramsden recorded Kovacik Insurance’s lone hit, an RBI single in the top of the second.

Josh Daugherty tossed a three-hitter in a losing effort. Daugherty struck out five and walked four.
