Eleven Indiana County 4-H members recently tested their communication skills at the annual Indiana County 4-H Presentation Contest. Members competed in presentations, public speeches, impromptu speeches and dramatic interpretation. Topics included sign language, tree identification, hiking, Alice Paul, dog grooming and tractor safety.

Sponsorship for the event was provided by the Indiana Kiwanis Club.

Winning blue ribbons in presentations were Jesse Isenberg and Alexis Elgin, senior plant science; Alexis McConnell and Nichele Olson, senior general; and Abigail Bruner and Elizabeth Bruner, junior animal science.

Brayden Spencer won a red ribbon in junior engineering and William McConnell won a white ribbon in senior engineering.

Winning blue ribbons in senior public speaking were Brydan Spencer and Alexis Elgin. In the junior division, Elizabeth Bruner won a blue ribbon and Brayden Spencer won a red ribbon.

In the impromptu speaking contest, senior division blue ribbon winners were Brydan Spencer, Alexis Elgin, Jesse Isenberg, Nichele Olson and Kaelin Olson. White ribbons went to seniors William McConnell and Alexis McConnell. In the junior division, Elizabeth Bruner and Abigail Bruner won blue ribbons. Brayden Spencer and John Clark Bruner won white ribbons.

In dramatic interpretation, senior Brydan Spencer won a red ribbon and juniors Brayden Spencer and Elizabeth Bruner won red ribbons.

Judges for the contest were Mary Miller, Kitty Eget, Jeanette McCoy and Michael Miller, 4-H leaders; Ashley Miller, volunteer; and Indiana Kiwanis Club members Ron Shearer, Luida Shearer and Fred Yun. Room chairmen were 4-H leaders David McCoy and Lori Richardson and volunteers Alisa Isenberg, Diane Friedline and Sue McConnell. The contest was coordinated by summer assistants Kelsey Isenberg and Katie Mehalik. Alex Wang from IUP also assisted.
