This summer has been the most successful yet for the Fresh Air Fund in our area. The most host families we have had in a year is seven; this year we have 16 so far!
I’d like to thank The Indiana Gazette for publishing my pleas for new host families — nearly all of the new hosts signed up after reading a letter to the editor my husband or I had written.
I’d like to thank the repeat hosts: Your commitment is invaluable.
I’d like to thank the new host families: You have helped ensure that this program will continue in our area.
It is a wonderful gift to open your hearts and homes to a child and you should be incredibly proud for doing so.
The Fresh Air Fund is just a few hundred short of its goal of placing 4,000 children this summer. It is not too late to sign up for one last trip, Aug. 8-19.
Last week, my sons and I escorted 43 New York City children to Butler, where one 7-year-old boy said, “I’ve never seen a real farm before.” It really is the simple things that mean the most to so many of the city children.
