DERRY — Blairsville went 5-0 and defeated Delmont, 10-0, in the championship game to win the Derry 11- and 12-year-old Little League all-star baseball tournament Thursday at Derry Little League Field.
The game was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.
In a five-game span, Nick Hrebik powered Blairsville with nine hits and nine RBIs, including four doubles. Tyler Moran drove in a team-high 10 runs and chipped in five singles and two doubles. Carrick Cavender tacked on six singles, a double and two RBIs, and Adam Ratkus singled four times, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs. Garrett Henigin added three singles, a double, a triple and four RBIs, and Andrew Perfetti finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs in the championship game. Hrebik and Henigin teamed up to throw back-to-back shutouts in the semifinal and championship games.
Gilgal claims top seed in playoffs
Gilgal Presbyterian finished the regular season with a 16-2 win over Grace Methodist 2 in an Indiana County Church League softball game Friday.
Gilgal secured the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, which begin Monday.
Bill Gasior led Gilgal by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Aaron Black singled twice, tripled and drove in a run, and Ken Campbell chipped in three singles. Ben Harley and Bobb Patterson each had two hits and two RBIs. George Campbell and winning pitcher Jeff Cribbs recorded two hits apiece.
Bill Waryck had two hits for Grace 2.
