Golfers qualify for tournament

FARMINGTON — Three area golfers have qualified to play in the Kings Restaurant Junior Player of the Year championship event, which will be held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort on Aug. 7.

C.J. Hughes, of Indiana, qualified in the boys’ 14-year-old division, and Alexa Strong, of Indiana, and Sydney Syster, of Derry, qualified in the girls’ 16- to 18-year-old division.

Meadow Lane names winners

The Meadow Lane Ladies 18-Hole Golf League named its winners from Wednesday’s event.

Tournament winners were Kathy Whitesel, Ann Poliziani and Dot Sanford. Betty Lukehart was the special event winner for longest putt on No. 2. Lukehart also had a birdie on No. 12, and Whitesel added a birdie on No. 14.

Fast Times improves to 11-1

Fast Times Screen Printing improved to 11-1 by thumping Bob’s Pizza, 11-1, in an Indiana Area Baseball Boosters game Thursday.

Lucas Chakot struck out five to earn the win. Chakot also added three hits. Bo Putt had three hits, Scott Shirley, Adam Mathe, Craig Krejocic and Mike Holsinger each added two hits, and Ryan Snyder tacked on a double.

Scott Bowman homered for Bob’s Pizza.

Summit wins in softball playoffs

Summit Church defeated Grace 1, 34-9, in the first round of the Indiana County Church League softball playoffs Thursday.

Mike Buterbaugh led Summit by hitting for the cycle, driving in three runs and scoring four times. Jon Perkinson went 4-for-4 with five RBIs. Winning pitcher Randy Colgan finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Summit plays Bethel this evening.
