Community Action Inc. recently named Joan Shirley, of Blairsville, as the Indiana County Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer of the Month for July. Shirley has been a member of the Senior Corps-RSVP since February 2006, volunteering for Aging Services Inc.’s Chestnut Hills Senior Center in Blairsville serving meals, cleaning, updating center activities on the computer and helping with special activities.

When asked why she volunteers, Shirley said, “I really enjoy being around people, meeting new friends and helping where there is a need. I volunteer at the center five days a week; it is a wonderful place to spend your time helping others.”

When she is not volunteering she enjoys playing volleyball, card games, bingo and walking with her center friends. Most of all, Joan enjoys spending time with her family. Shirley serves as president of the Blairsville 55 Club and attends the Father’s House Fellowship Church in Blairsville.
