A child who lives in poverty is more likely to miss school, and a child who is not in school is not getting an education. An education is the only way out of poverty.
As the calendar turns to August, a robust and devoted group of volunteers is putting the finishing touches on the fifth annual Back to School Bash set for Aug. 17.
We are collecting school supplies at Calvary Presbyterian Church and gently used clothes and new socks and underwear at Zion Lutheran. ICCAP is collecting monetary donations (marked Back to School Bash), and we are looking for volunteers to make this all happen. If you have questions, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org on any of this.
It may be hard to imagine, but the sense of confidence that exudes from the children who receive a new backpack or a haircut helps those children want to go back to school. They look forward to getting that education and stepping away from a cycle that has affected generations. You can be part of it all.
