Beginning Aug. 16, at 6 p.m., Route 56 will be closed in both directions one mile east of Brush Valley, between the intersections of Spruce Hollow Road and Sunflower Lane, for the replacement of the structurally deficient bridge that carries Route 56 over Brush Creek in Brush Valley Township, Indiana County.
The work includes the replacement of the existing bridge over Brush Creek with a new box culvert and realignment of approximately one-half mile of roadway.
A detour for eastbound travel will be in place using Route 56 to Route 119 South, to Route 22 East, to Route 56 West.
A detour for westbound travel will be in place using Route 56 East to Route 22 West, to Route 119 North, to Route 56 West.
This detour is required to make the tie-in to the new roadway. The road is expected to open the evening of Friday, Aug. 23.
PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert to changing conditions and to pay attention to flaggers in the work zone.
Remember fines are doubled; drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
This $2,880,000 bridge replacement project is being constructed by C.J. Merlo of Mineral Point. The project is expected to be completed October.
