COOKPORT — The Cookport Fair will sponsor three baking contests this year.
• 2013 PA Preferred Chocolate Baking Contest
The PA Preferred Chocolate Baking Contest will be held at 8 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Cookport Fairgrounds.
The contest is co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Pennsylvania Preferred program and the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs.
This is the second year the PA Preferred program is contest co-sponsor.
A state-sponsored agricultural marketing program, PA Preferred identifies and promotes food and agricultural products grown, produced or processed in Pennsylvania.
When residents buy local products, they not only directly support the state’s economy, but also encourage Pennsylvania businesses to continue to grow and create great products that guarantee consumers fresh, quality food.
Contestants are encouraged to use as many Pennsylvania-produced ingredients as possible in their chocolate baking recipes.
For a list of member locations, visit www.PAPre ferred.com. Cookport Fair’s contest is a preliminary competition that leads to the selection of final PA Preferred Chocolate Baking blue-ribbon winners each January at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. First-place winners at the Farm Show will be awarded a cash grand prize of $500 for the winning chocolate cake recipe and $250 for the winning chocolate cookie, brownie or bar recipe.
For a complete list of rules, visit www.cookportfair.com or contact contest coordinator Susan Belford at (724) 254-2239 or board secretary Diana Stauffer at (724) 254-1445.
