GOLF: Homer City's Illig wins tour championship

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Fresh off his club championship at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course over the weekend, Homer City’s Ian Illig topped his division in the North East Junior Golf Tour Championship, played Tuesday at the Scotch Valley Country Club.

Illig shot a 71, the best score out of any division, to claim first place in the boys’ 16- to 18-year-old Oakmont Division, seven strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.

Ian Helsel and Mason Frumkin, both of Indiana, earned second-place finishes in the boys’ 13-15 age group, Helsel in the Oakmont Division with an 84 and Frumkin in the Pine Valley Division with a 90.

Wade Semsick, of Indiana, finished seventh in the boys’ 16-18 Oakmont Division, at 85. Roman Tate and Seth Peterman, both of Clymer, fired a 91 and 92, respectively, to finish sixth and seventh in the boys’ 16-18 Pine Valley Division.


MALIN SCORES ACE: Dave Malin, of Indiana, scored a hole-in-one Tuesday at Meadow Lane Golf Course.

Malin aced No. 1, which was playing at 101 yards, using a pitching wedge.

The witness was Frank Tremel.
