ROCKIES 6, PIRATES 4: Bucs lose second straight

The Colorado Rockies scored five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night in Denver.

The Rockies responded after the Pirates took a 3-1 lead in the top of the inning. Garrett Jones tripled to drive in

Starling Marte, and Jose Tabata followed with an RBI single.

Colorado scored all six runs off Pirates starter A.J. Burnett, who fell to 5-8. In the sixth, Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon hit consecutive RBI doubles, and Dexter Fowler singled in two runs. Corey Dickerson singled in the fifth run.

The Pirates staged a rally in the ninth on Neil Walker’s RBI single and had two on with one out, but Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez struck out against Rockies reliever Rex Brothers.

The Rockies opened the scoring in the second on Jonathan Herrera’s RBI single.

The Pirates answered in the fourth on Russell Martin’s double that drove in McCutchen.

Colorado handed the Pirates their second straight loss. The Rockies beat the Pirates 10-1 on Friday night to snap Pittsburgh’s five-game winning streak.

The series resumes this afternoon with the Pirates’ Jeff Locke (9-3) facing the Rockies’ Chad Bettis (0-1).
