As part of an effort to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Medical Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., one area fitness center is holding events for workout buffs.

Lake’s 24 Hour Fitness, located at 20 S. Seventh St., Indiana, will hold three events in September, with all proceeds being donated to the hospital.

“There’s a fun walk, a lifting competition and a push-up contest,” said Jamie Lake of the center. The center is also asking members to donate to St. Jude’s while at the gym as well.

The first event is the run/walk for St. Jude that will be held on Sept. 7. Registration begins at 9 a.m. that day, and the run/walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. A $10 donation to St. Jude is required at registration.

The Push for St. Jude Contest will be held next, where participants will have one minute to do push-ups and sit-ups. This will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20.

There is a $10 registration fee before the date of the contest, and a $12 registration fee the day of the event.

Competitors will be placed in to groups of up to five, and will be able to compete against friends on a one-to-one basis, according to Lake’s Fitness Facebook page.

Winners of this competition will receive a Lake’s 24 Hour Fitness T-shirt and trophy.

Finally, the Lift for St. Jude will be held Sept. 28, with registration beginning at 8:45 a.m. with the event to follow at 10 a.m. Participants will be required to bench press, dead lift and do squats.

The registration fee for this event is $25 ahead of time, and $30 the day of the event. The registration fee for this event includes a T-shirt.

Participants can register for each event at the front desk of the fitness center.

In addition, Lake’s is looking for volunteers to help with these events.

“We’re looking for help if someone wanted to help conducting the events, volunteer that day,” Lake said.
