Two back-to-school bashes were held Saturday to help children prepare for the new school year with free haircuts, backpacks, school supplies and new clothing.

One of the highlights at the event at Valley Grace Brethren Church in Armagh was to examine a firetruck close up and to try on the gear. Tim Benamati, assistant chief of the Armagh & East Wheatfield VFD, helped Dawson Peak, 7, the son of Elizabeth Peak and Marvin Slee, of Robinson, dress up.

Behind him, Lt. Nick Brilhart helped dress Daniel Peak, 11.

Also Samantha Cole, 8, and brother Eli King, 5, the children of Kenneth King, Homer City, looked through some books at Lifesteps Mobile Library during the bash held by Calvary Presbyterian Church in Indiana.

Kelly Ridgway, Lifesteps Mobile Library resource specialist, was on hand to offer assistance.
