Unbeaten Kovacik Insurance mustered just six hits but used strong pitching and fielding efforts and big bursts in the third and fourth innings to upend Young Township at Bertolino Field.

Kovacik Insurance (6-0) scored a run in the top of the first and then tacked on three runs on a hit, four walks and a hit batsman in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

The next inning, Kovacik Insurance added four runs on a hit, four walks and a hit batsman. Scott Thompson sparked the rally by cracking a two-run single.

“We just couldn’t seem to find the strike zone,” Young Township manager Barry Thomas said. “Any time you help a good team out with that many walks you’re going to have problems. We’re still trying to find our way. We need to put together a complete game in all facets.”

Adam Magalich paced Kovacik Insurance by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Reed Ratkus singled and drove in two runs.

Winning pitcher Bobby Gaston struck out eight and walked four in 4 1-3 innings.

Mitchel Yard went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Young Township (3-4). Ben Carnahan added a pair of base hits.

The teams meet again this evening in Blairsville.
