Young Township played stellar defense, mounted a two-out rally in the third inning and blanked host Marion Center.

Young Township scored six runs on four hits, two errors and a walk in the top of the third to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Renegades cracked four base hits in a row with two outs during the onslaught.

“We had two outs, and then all of a sudden, the doors just fell off,” Marion Center coach Joe Bunyak said. “It was really unbelievable. They put four singles in a row straight up the middle. It was just a crazy turn of events.”

Mitchel Yard paced Young Township by going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Mitch Johnston singled, doubled and drove in a run, and Ryan Ferguson singled and drove in two runs.

Winning pitcher Mike Percic fired a six-hitter, striking out five and walked none.

Losing pitcher C.J. Stiles struck out six and walked one in six innings. Stiles also singled twice.

Young Township plays host to Post 493 on Saturday, and Marion Center travels to Kovacik Insurance on Sunday.
