Kovacik Insurance scored 20 of its 32 runs in two innings during a doubleheader sweep of Punxsutawney on Sunday and clinched the Indiana County Senior Legion regular-season title.

Kovacik Insurance scored nine runs in the second inning of a 15-10 victory in the first game and plated 11 runs in the first inning of a 17-0 romp in the second game.

With a 16-3 regular-season record, Kovacik earned the top seed for the upcoming Indiana County and Region 7 tournaments. The county playoffs are scheduled to begin Wednesday, and the Region 7 tournament is set to begin July 20 in Somerset.

In the opener, Reed Ratkus, Scott Thompson, Bobby Gaston, Cameron Livingston and Andrew Iezzi each had two of Kovacik’s 13 hits. Adam Magalich doubled and drove in three runs, and Bobby Thompson accounted for three RBIs. Iezzi, who tripled, and Livingston, each had two RBIs.

Bobby Thompson pitched first five innings, yielding six runs on nine hits. He struck out one and walked three.

Dakota Byers stroked a pair of doubles and single and drove in two runs for Punxsutawney. Dakota Thomas banged out three hits, and Reuban Taylor and Dane Baker had two each. Baker and Brandon Blose each knocked in two runs.

The second game lasted only 2 1/2 innings. Scott Thompson yielded one hit, walked two and struck out one, and Ratkus went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Anthony Faulk, Bobby Thompson, Scott Thompson and Adam Magalich chipped in two hits apiece. Bobby Thompson drove in three runs, and Faulk and Andrew Schultz each knocked in two.
