NEW YORK (AP) — A group of convicted sex offenders has testified against former New York Gov. George Pataki at a civil trial in Manhattan.
The men have sued Pataki and other state officials for tens of millions of dollars in federal court. They claim their rights were violated in the mid-2000s when the state transferred them to a psychiatric facility rather than let them go free at the end of their prison terms.
The ex-cons have told jurors that they were never given a chance to fight their involuntary commitments. Some claim they also were never given any treatment and feared they would never get out.
Pataki is expected to testify this week.
