BEAVER (AP) — A district attorney said an online ad claiming to be from a woman trying to find someone to adopt her baby boy is a scam, likely originating overseas.

District Attorney Anthony Berosh told the Beaver County Times his investigators are working to trace the ads, which he believes may originate overseas.

The ads have been posted on Facebook and Craigslist sites.

A woman who answered the ad told the newspaper another woman who claimed to place the ad said she was from Cameroon, an African country, and told the western Pennsylvania woman she would need to pay $3,900 to adopt the African woman’s 8-month-old son, plus air fare.

Berosh said the ad is targeting people desperate to adopt a child.
