TUNKHANNOCK (AP) — A Virginia woman has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit over a recent helicopter crash in northeastern Pennsylvania that killed her young son and four others.
Crystal McKain, of Leesburg, Va., filed the Wyoming County lawsuit Friday over the death of 3-year-old Noah McKain Woodland.
McKain has sued Hampton Roads Charter Service, saying the company “negligently and recklessly” allowed 30-year-old pilot David Jenny Jr. to fly when he was not fully trained.
Federal investigators say Jenny wasn’t certified for instrument-only flights, and hadn’t gotten a weather briefing before the scheduled flight from Endicott, N.Y., to Lehighton.
The boy’s father, Carl Robert Woodland, 29, of Lovettsville, Va., also died in the July 27 crash.
McKain is seeking more than $550,000 in damages. The charter company did not immediately return a call for comment.
