Indiana opened its season by sweeping Greensburg Salem, 25-22, 25-14, 25-11, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at Fifth Street Gymnasium.

Natalie Cignetti powered Indiana with 11 kills. Helena Dadson added six kills, and Brianna Dillon chipped in 24 assists and four aces.

Greensburg Salem won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 21-25, 15-4.

Indiana travels to Kittanning on Thursday.


BLAIRSVILLE 3, UNITED 0: Blairsville swept United, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, in a Heritage Conference match in Blairsville.

Kia Clayton led Blairsville with 15 kills, two blocks and two assists. Abby Peace added 12 assists, three kills and two blocks.

Blairsville won the junior varsity match, 12-25, 25-16, 15-8.

Both teams play on the road Thursday. Blairsville (1-1) travels to Homer-Center, and United heads to Northern Cambria.


LIGONIER VALLEY 3, HOMER-CENTER 2: Ligonier Valley outlasted Homer-Center, 22-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, 15-11, in a Heritage Conference match.

Becca Kromel racked up 22 service points, eight aces and 12 kills to lead Ligonier Valley. Amanda Ross had 11 kills, and Hannah Yeskey chipped in 39 assists.

Ligonier Valley won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-14.

Both teams play Thursday. Ligonier Valley (3-0, 2-0 conference) will play in Marion Center, and Homer-Center (0-2) plays host to Blairsville.


FORD CITY 3, APOLLO-RIDGE 0: Ford City blanked Apollo-Ridge, 25-12, 25-23, 25-15, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA match in Spring Church.

Kayla Gunnerson paced Apollo-Ridge with four kills and four blocks. Claire Broman added six digs, and Courtney Casella finished with four digs for the Vikings.

Ford City won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-10.

Apollo-Ridge (3-1, 0-1 section) visits Greensburg Salem on Thursday.


CALVARY BAPTIST 3, MOUNT CARMEL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 0: Calvary Baptist swept Mount Carmel Christian School, 25-20, 25-9, 25-23, in a non-conference match in Clymer.

Megan Plants had 14 service points and 10 kills to lead Calvary Baptist. Amy Frick added five kills.

Calvary Baptist (2-2) plays at Slippery Rock Christian School on Tuesday.


PURCHASE LINE 3, MARION CENTER 1: Host Purchase Line beat Marion Center, 25-15, 25-11, 16-25, 25-21, in a Heritage Conference match.

Mikhala Stover led Purchase Line with 13 service points and seven kills. Kelly Pierce added seven kills and 12 service points, Jaycelyn Fleming had 12 kills, and Amy Elling tacked on 35 assists.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-19.

Both teams play Thursday. Purchase Line (2-1) travels to Penns Manor, and Marion Center plays host to Ligonier Valley.
