Annual Hawk Walk scheduled
September 17, 2013 10:50 AM

The fourth annual Neighborhood Hawk Walk will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Hawk Walk is a campus/community initiative in which small groups of students, police officers, university and borough officials walk door to door through select campus neighborhoods distributing information packets and greeting neighborhood residents and students.

Packets include materials on ordinances, community services, useful contacts and other essential community information. The goal is to increase community participation and awareness. The program focuses on neighborhoods with a mix of student and non-student residents.

Communities hosting neighborhood walks have enjoyed safer, cleaner and more inviting neighborhoods. The Indiana Community University Collaborative, Downtown Indiana’s Elm Street Program, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Indiana Borough host this event.

The ICUC is a grass-roots organization brought together by community and university stakeholders. The mission of the ICUC is to recognize, mobilize and celebrate student residents as local community assets and promote their development as community members through programs and initiatives designed to foster their identity and development as citizens.
