HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Three Indiana golfers advance at WPIALs

GREENSBURG — Indiana’s Matt Holuta, John Louis Gatti and Kyle Grube each qualified for the WPIAL individual semifinal round at the WPIAL Division 1 Section 1 boys’ golf sectional tournament Tuesday at Valley Green Golf Club.

Holuta shot a 71, Gatti posted a 77, and Grube fired a 79. Also competing for Indiana but not advancing were Kevin Jack (82), Wade Semsick (87) and Bo Putt (96).

The WPIAL Class AAA semifinal round will be held Tuesday at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.

• LATROBE — In a match played Monday, Indiana defeated Derry, 192-233, in a WPIAL Division 1 Section 1 match at Latrobe Elks.

Matt Holuta and Wade Semsick each medaled and shot a 36 to guide Indiana. Kevin Jack and Danny Clark each fired a 39, Kyle Grube had a 42, and John Louis Gatti added a 43.

Dan Bisi paced Derry by shooting a 40. Jake Feliciani shot a 45, and Ian Westerbeck and Jake Zemba each carded a 49.

Indiana (8-1, 7-1) plays host to Hempfield on Thursday.


HOMER-CENTER DOWNS BLAIRSVILLE: Homer-Center outlasted Blairsville, 216-227, in a Heritage Conference boys’ golf match Tuesday at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course in Blairsville.

Colin Moore medaled and shot a 40 to lead Homer-Center. Joe Capitosti fired a 43, Andrew Gaydosh and Logan Dellafiora each carded a 44, and Bryan Buzi posted a 45.

Jake Shirley shot a 41 to pace Blairsville (4-4). John Distefano had a 43, Corey Ramsden added a 47, and Jake Swiencki and Marissa Lawton each posted 48s.

Homer-Center (8-3, 8-1 conference) plays host to Ligonier Valley on Thursday.
