Older workers to be honored

Aging Services Inc. will celebrate National Employ Older Workers Week through Saturday.

A “55 & Better” celebration will be held on Wednesday at the offices located at 1055 Oak St. in Indiana to honor their own employees, and to recognize in-home services workers who have found work in the community through ASI’s Senior Employment Program.

The Senior Employment Program matches people needing workers with those people searching for work.

In-home services workers provide essential services to the elderly in Indiana County who want to maintain independence in their own homes but need some assistance.

These older workers provide caregiving, housekeeping, transportation to doctors and minor home maintenance and repairs. Several will be recognized Wednesday by the ASI Senior Employment Program for their hard work and dedication.

More than half of the staff employed at Aging Services Inc. is older than 55. This year four more employees will be presented a gift of appreciation for their dedication to the agency and the older citizens of this county that they serve.

ASI employees being recognized are: Cindy Antonio, social center aide; Delcine Sbardella, office manager; and drivers Randy Flick and Fred Popp.

Employ Older Workers Week is celebrated each year in September all over the country.

If you know an older worker, why not tell them how much you appreciate them?
