HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: Marion Center boys race past Wildcats, Lions
The Marion Center boys’ cross country team swept United, 18-43, and Homer-Center, 15-50, in a Heritage Conference triangular meet Wednesday in Armagh.
The Marion Center girls’ team defeated United, 23-36. The Homer-Center girls’ team didn’t have enough runners to score a meet.
The United boys’ team beat Homer-Center, 19-39.
Kyle Anderson won the boys’ race with a time of 19 minutes, 26 seconds to lead Marion Center. Other top 10 finishers were Kyle Hicks (second), Maverick Stuchell (third), David Wiles (fifth), J.J. Brendle (seventh), Nathan Alabran (eighth) and John Mabon (ninth).
Gaige George finished fourth to pace United (1-4). Noah Bracken took sixth.
Ben Wofford placed 10th to guide Homer-Center.
Hannah Fulton finished second in the girls’ race to power Marion Center. Other top 10 finishers were Taya Whitfield (fourth), Bailey Cribbs (sixth), Katlyn Olson (seventh), Alex Oterson (ninth) and Megan Risinger (10th).
Heather Paynter won the girls’ race with a time of 21:31 for Homer-Center.
Ryleigh Ludwig placed third for United (2-3). Eden Bloom took fifth, and Hannah Rensko finished eighth.
United plays host to Blairsville and Purchase Line on Wednesday.
LIGONIER VALLEY SWEEPS COLTS, RED DRAGONS: Ligonier Valley swept Northern Cambria and Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference meet at Antiochian Village in Ligonier.
The Ligonier Valley boys’ team beat Purchase Line, 23-34, and Northern Cambria, 15-50. Purchase Line defeated Northern Cambria, 15-50.
The Ligonier Valley girls’ team defeated Purchase Line, 15-50, and Northern Cambria, 23-33. Northern Cambria beat Purchase Line, 15-50.
Carlos Chavez won the boys’ race to lead Ligonier Valley in 17:49. Sam Maust placed sixth, Tanner Solich finished seventh, Nate Hockenberry took eighth, and Noah Bubin placed ninth.
Daniel Learn placed second to pace Purchase Line. Taylor Antisdel finished third and Caleb Brady took 10th.
Chris Woodley finished fourth for Northern Cambria. C.J. Wiewiora placed fifth.
Stephanie Heming finished second to pace the Ligonier Valley girls’ team. Gina McKlveen placed third, Olivia Miller took fourth, Rachel Allison finished seventh, and Jasmine Connor placed ninth.
Ally Kopera won the girls’ race for Northern Cambria with a time of 20:34. Adriana Frontino took fifth, Siena Previte finished eighth, and Shannon Mazurak placed 10th.
Each team competes Wednesday on the road. Purchase Line travels to United, Ligonier Valley heads to Homer-Center and Northern Cambria visits Marion Center.
