While it’s clear that housing concerns in the county vary, as the Indiana County Housing Study progresses, several key issues are emerging:
• Aging baby boomers face concerns relating to maintenance of older homes and a lack of housing options that can easily accommodate the needs of an older person.
• Single-family homes have been and continue to be converted into student rental units as education institutions such as IUP and WyoTech change and grow.
• Sprawl is occurring in some areas — this is where land development continues while population growth stays flat. Such development can put a strain on existing infrastructure and resources.
• The Marcellus shale industry’s temporary and transient workers may impact the hotel and rental markets.
