BLAIRSVILLE — Penns Manor’s defense led the Comets in a victory over Blairsville in a Heritage Conference football game Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Despite a sloppy offensive performance for most of the night, Penns Manor improved to 6-0 going into a battle of unbeaten teams next week at Ligonier Valley.

Penns Manor’s stout defensive front was key in limiting the Bobcats (3-3) to just 10 yards rushing. Blairsville quarterback Jaylin Rydbom was 13 of 31 passing for 106 yards and helped key a second-half comeback of sorts, though he faced constant pressure and frequently absorbed hard hits from Comets defenders.

Lucas Kowalski scored two touchdowns, one on a 56-yard interception return on the third play of the game and another on a 48-yard fourth-quarter run to help make the score look more in Penns Manor’s favor than it was.

Louie Tate, who led the Comets with 93 yards on 11 carries, Stephen Dumm and Bailey Mumau also ran for touchdowns. Kowalski gained 90 yards on 12 carries.

Rydbom hit Dylan Dirienzo with three passes, including a 9-yard touchdown, on a second-half drive. That pulled Blairsville within two scores, 20-7, early in the fourth quarter, but it was as close as the Bobcats would get.

Cameron Livingston, who led Blairsville with four catches for 56 yards, suffered an injury and did not play in the second half.
