HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL: Ligonier Valley shakes off slow start to get past Blairsville

Ligonier Valley erased a one-game deficit and battled back to outlast Blairsville, 22-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-20, in a Heritage Conference girls’ volleyball match Wednesday in Ligonier.

Rachel Wallace racked up 23 service points for Ligonier Valley. Madison McLaughlin added eight kills.

Nicole Boyer led Blairsville with seven kills. Abby Peace added 14 assists.

Ligonier Valley won the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-11.

Both teams play today. Blairsville (3-8) plays host to United, and Ligonier Valley (8-2, 7-1 conference) travels to Homer-Center.


CAMBRIA HEIGHTS 3, PURCHASE LINE 2: Cambria Heights climbed out of an 0-2 hole and outlasted Purchase Line in a five-game thriller, 23-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-7, in a non-conference match in Purchase Line.

Mikhala Stover racked up 12 kills and nine digs to lead Purchase Line. Allison Goodlin added nine kills and 10 digs, Becca Carnahan tacked on 15 digs, Megan Hudson had 16 service points, and Amy Elling notched 28 assists.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-23.

Purchase Line (5-5) travels to Marion Center tonight.
