AUDRA PALMO: St. Andrew's residents enjoyed game at IUP
On Sept. 28, IUP generously donated football tickets to the residents of St. Andrew’s Village. The excitement of the day started the week of the game. Our residents made banners for the game, held a countdown to game day and shared many memories of past games they had attended.
On the day of the game, the residents arrived to be greeted by facility director Emily Briggs. Emily had an RSVP section for the group and had arranged for the football players and coaches to meet the residents.
The group was then asked to come onto the track and watch the halftime show. For one of our residents who has eyesight problems, sitting so close to the band was a highlight for her. She said even though she couldn’t see as well, hearing the band and the crowd cheer on the Hawks had her living in the moment. Her pompom didn’t sit still the entire game!
After the game, football players came up to shake everyone’s hands and even thanked the residents for coming. The smiles on their faces were priceless.
This special day wouldn’t have been made possible without the help of Lisa Bash-Ward, Emily Briggs and the IUP football coaches and players. Thank you to the band for putting on an awesome halftime show, the IUP Hawk for welcoming our residents and to the cheerleaders for greeting our residents as well. Thank you to all who helped make this day possible and we look forward to doing it next year.
